The breakfast edition!
The best things about Sunday are kicking back with a great morning meal, and meeting up with friends. Today, I get to do both – I’m meetings friends this afternoon to see Star Wars The Force Awakens. (Finally! Whoo Hoo!)
But this morning, I made this breakfast:
Scrambled eggs with chives and spinach on Pepperidge Farm swirled rye/pumpernickel toast (recipe to follow). Virgin Bloody Mary (veggie juice with a splash of lime juice). Strong black tea (Tazo Awake English breakfast). Emerald Nutty Bites (Chai flavored).
Once I plated every thing (yes, it’s a thing for me), I sat down to watch this:
God, I got such a crush on Jack Black after this movie. Yeah, his frat boy movies are okay, but this one where he plays Miles, the composer? Yeah, swoon. He’s funny, sensitive and he romances Kate Winslet out of her broken heart by being her friend. And okay, he starts to realize he likes her that way too by the end of the movie.
Well, he has some competition from her neighbor, 90 year old Eli Wallach. (Look up Meet Cute, then come back.) His character, Arthur, needs some help staying in touch with the world, and Kate’s character, Iris, helps him out.
And Iris helps Miles get over his broken heart when he catches his girlfriend cheating. In one of the movie’s most moving scenes, she explains how she was in love with this rotter named Jasper for ages and how much it hurt, to which Miles responds:
Well, fuck! You need this [drink] more than I do!
Then they go make Christmas fettuccine and cue the “We’re getting over those assholes” montage!
I love this freaking movie. Well, half of it.
To me, the Cameron Diaz/Jude Law relationship, doesn’t work. They annoy me, and they bore me. The best parts of their storyline are when Cameron goes shopping for Christmas goodies, and interacts with Iris’ little dog. Oh, and when she meets Jude’s adorable little daughters.
Otherwise, meh. I think it’s because they seem to be playing Cameron Diaz and Jude Law. You know?
I can’t even remember their characters’ names, and I can’t be arsed to looked them up.That’s how uninterested I am in their characters.
But don’t skip this movie because of half the main characters!
Watch the parts with Iris and Miles and Arthur, the cute dog and the adorable little girls!
Listen to the great Hans Zimmer soundtrack!
Geek out when you realize Mick St. James and his vampire wife, Coraline, from Moonlight, are both in this movie and never meet!
Have a cuppa tea, or a Virgin Bloody Mary, or something stronger, and enjoy this movie!
(Part three coming soon!)
Scrambled eggs with chives and spinach (and toast!)
Lightly butter the bread on both sides while the pan heats up. Since I use Earth Balance buttery spread, made from olive oil, this isn’t as bad as it sounds. Let it brown on both sides; plate it up. Take a little EVOO and put in pan. Take two eggs, scramble them in the pan (not before!); throw in chives, salt and pepper to taste. In separate part of the pan, sautee the spinach, the mix with eggs and chives. Top the toast with this and enjoy!
